Naomi Owen

Naomi Ruth Owen, 83, of Owensboro, KY formerly of Madisonville and Webster Co. passed away at her grandson’s home in Elizabethtown, KY on Saturday November 5, 2016. She joined the work force at an early age, doing secretarial work for many years, retiring from Trover Clinic in 1994 after 25 years of service. She graduated from Providence High School in 1951. Her greatest joy was her family and she enjoyed writing, especially skits in poetry, and loved to cook, entertaining family and friends. Music was an important part of her life, especially southern gospel. Over the years she held several positions at her home church, Dixon General Baptist, and was a charter member of Dixon B P &W club, serving two terms as president. She was a founding member of Covenant Community Church in Madisonville, fondly known as “Miss Ruthie”.

Her husband of 59 years, James “Ducky” Owen died on May 5, 2011. Death being no stranger to the couple, when on April 18, 2000, their only child, Jamia Howard, passed away suddenly at Trover Clinic, her place of employment. She was also preceded by her parents Rev. and Mrs. Herman Capshaw, 2 brothers Larry and George Capshaw, and 1 sister Lynn Winstead and a special cousin Sue Townsend. Survivors include her grandson Josh Howard and his wife Kelsey of Elizabethtown, KY; 2 sisters Carolyn Broussard and husband Joe of Nashville, TN and Wanda Cartwright of Owensboro, KY. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday November 9, 2016 at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY. Dr. Michael Knight, Rev. Ron Hampton and Chaplain Pat Dew will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence, KY. Visitation will be from 9am until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.
