Nancy Miller

May 14, 1926 — November 16, 2018

Dixon, KY

Nancy Rebecca Hockaday Miller, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2018 surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great- granddaughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter-in-law.

Nancy was born at the family home in Brazil, Gibson County, Tennessee to Jesse Edward and Leila Mae Hockaday, who preceded her in death in 1969 and 1986, respectively. Nancy was also preceded in death by her older brother, Edward Everett Hockaday and a great nephew, Jordan Barnes Hockaday.

Nancy was married to Warren Baker Miller, Sr., for 52 years who was the love of her life. She left her beloved West Tennessee home without hesitation. As evidence of her devotion from the beginning, she agreed to a honeymoon trip to Knoxville, Tennessee so her new husband could take her to the 1954 Tennessee v. Alabama football game.

Nancy’s true focus in life was her children and grandchildren, who survive her: Nancy Miller Myrick of Dixon, Kentucky, daughter; Robin L. Miller (Robert S. Bires) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, daughter; Warren Baker Miller, Jr. (Amanda) of Denver, Colorado, son; Jarrod Neil Myrick of Dixon, Kentucky, grandson; Lindsay Miller Myrick Krom of Nashville, Tennessee, granddaughter; Michael Drew Myrick (Lauren) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, grandson; Amy Catherine Myrick of Nashville, Tennessee, granddaughter; Kathleen Miller Bires (Justin Stappler) Nashville, Tennessee, granddaughter; Emma Hockaday Bires of Nashville, Tennessee, granddaughter; and Lilah Grace Krom of Nashville, Tennessee,  great-granddaughter. Nancy is also survived by her younger brother Dr. Perry Jones Hockaday of Pascagoula, Miss, as well as several nephews, great nephews and great-nieces.

Nancy graduated from Peabody High School in Trenton, Tennessee in 1944 before attending West Tennessee Business College in Jackson, Tennessee.  Before marrying and moving to Kentucky, she worked for the Trenton Light and Water Department.  Nancy spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family.  She loved playing bridge with her friends in Dixon, was a past secretary of the Webster County High School PTA, a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Dixon, and a member of Lisman Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 64 years.  A great lover of antiques, she loved attending sales all over Webster County and taught all of us to value beautiful, old furniture, collectables and especially, hand-made quilts.

Beginning in the mid-1980s, Nancy and Warren, Sr. spent winters in Venice, Florida, but she was really only happy back at home in Dixon.
