Edmond Oral Samples, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, departed this life on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the age of 99. He was born on November 30, 1926, and married his lifelong love, Laura Jewell, on May 4, 1947. Before her passing, they celebrated 77 years of Christian marriage. He leaves behind his children, Martha Baker (Jerry), Stephen Samples (Joanna), Robert Samples (Vickie), several grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family members and friends.
Oral will be remembered as a man whose life was rooted in hard work, faith, and laughter. He was deeply devoted to his wife, cherishing their life together and the family they built. His love for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was steady and generous, shown not only in words but in the time, care, and presence he gave so freely.A faithful member and deacon of Shady Grove General Baptist Church, and member of the Poole Masonic Lodge, he lived his beliefs through kindness, service, and integrity. His faith shaped the way he treated others and guided the example he set for those who knew him.In his prime, he could often be found tending his garden or drinking coffee on the porch, finding joy and peace in the outdoors. He also had a gift for humor and never missed a chance to tell a joke, even if he had told it before.He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and warmth that will not be forgotten. While he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the family bonds he held so dear.Funeral service will be held at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon at 1pm on Friday, January 23, 2026, with visitation beginning at 11am. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole, KY. Rev. Dean Esarey will officiate. Memorials in his honor may be given to Shady Grove General Baptist Church PO Box 22, Poole, KY 42444.
