David Lee Liggett

David Lee Liggett, 79, of Dixon, KY, left this world for a better one on Saturday, May 27th, 2023.  David was a faithful member of Little Zion General Baptist in Dixon.  David retired from the Webster County School System after more than 20 years in maintenance.  He was a carpenter building many homes in Webster County including 4 of his own and one for his daughter.  He could often be found on his front porch enjoying the outdoors and was always ready to chat with visitors.
David took great joy in spending time with his family.  He loved his two girls greatly and he was their hero.  When the girls were young, he followed them to different churches to hear them sing but his favorite place to hear them sing was at his church, Little Zion.

David was quick to put his skills to use whether it was building doll houses for his granddaughters, target practice with his grandsons, or teaching his grandchildren to drive a stick shift.  Though not a sports fan, David watched many football, soccer, and basketball games to cheer on his grandchildren.

Of all the titles David wore- husband, father, granddad, & great-granddad- the most important one was Jesus-follower.  A deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 40 years, David loved the Bible and passionately pursued the Word of God.  He read it, taught it, treasured it, and walked it with all that was in him.  He even carried the Bible in his Kindle to read when he was away from home.  He leaves a beautiful legacy and pathway for his family to follow.  He also left them with ink-stained Bibles filled with his notes and thoughts during his pursuit. The many prayers he prayed for his family will continue to be a sweet incense in heaven as he waits for the rest of them to join him.

He was the son of the late Thomas (Buck) and Ruby Dossett Liggett of Dixon.  He was preceded in death by his twin brother Dorris Liggett, sisters Faye Rakestraw and Sue Duncan, and brother Jimmy Liggett.

David is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Ann Rakestraw Liggett, and two daughters Nancy (Gary) Hobgood of Sebree and Stacy (Ted) Wortham of Murray.  He was grandad to 5 grandchildren: Rachel (Bryan) Morgan, Jerad Hobgood, Aaron (Darby) Hobgood, Samuel Wortham, and Leanne Wortham.  He adored his 2 great-grandchildren: Cason Lee and Tevin Morgan.

David is also survived by 2 sisters, Shirley (George) Tapp and Ann Braden, and one brother, Tommy (Naomi) Liggett, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 31st, 2023 at 1pm at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY. Bro. David Bumpus and Bro. David Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Slaughters, KY. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pm on Tuesday and from 9am until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gideon’s International PO Box 412 Sebree, KY 42455. Online condolences can be made at www.townsendfuneralhomeinc.com
